It's been almost four years since the full version of Empyrion - Galactic Survival was released on Steam. If you count Early Access, that should be more than eight years. It took a while but it looks like we're finally getting the first ever expansion for the game. Dubbed as "Dark Faction," it introduces new features which brings with it a new twist to the gameplay. This new expansion is available on Steam for $9.99.
The Dark Faction
In Dark Faction, players are invited to take on a journey to learn more about the beginnings of this new galactic power which has started to spread at a rather alarming speed. They'll explore the various corrupted environment of planets which have been taken over by this new power and try to liberate them to slow the expansion of the corruption. If possible, players can try to eradicate the problem.
New Content
This new expansion introduces energy-powered swords which is highly useful in melee combat. Players though should be happy to know that they now have a chance to eliminated enemies from a distance with the new system of ballistic projectile weapons that include the bow and grenade launcher. With the addition of Dark Field technology, they'll be able to come up with new devices like the Disruptor Turret, which can shut down the power core of enemy ships and thus cripple them.
Players can also build their very own ships and planetary bases using organic style of the Dark Faction which is scavenging for materials.

In celebration of the release of the game's first ever expansion, the base game is being offered at a 60% discount starting February 6. Players can also get the Complete Edition which has both the base game and Dark Faction at an additional 10% off.
Talking about this newest release, Eleon Game Studios' founder Eric Lucas revealed that this is a chance for the team to offer players another flavor when it comes to Empyrion. He added that this one is dark, tense, and could give even veteran players a run for their money.
