The 'extra 10 per cent' that Scotland requires to secure World Cup qualification

Andy Halliday has urged Scotland to play with greater freedom as they prepare for their World Cup clash with Brazil.

The former Rangers and Motherwell midfielder believes Steve Clarke’s side have been too passive so far, following their Group C win over Haiti and defeat to Morocco.

Halliday argues Scotland are not getting the most out of the talent available to them. Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football podcast, he said: “As much as I want to see us get to major tournaments, I want to be entertained at the same time when we get there.

"I want to see us have real belief that we can go deep in tournaments. Morocco are a fantastic team, but I don’t think they are much better than us in terms of individuals; I really don’t.

"They reached a World Cup semi-final not just because of their quality, but because they are extremely well coached.

“I think if we can just get that extra 10 per cent out of the group, and that is all it is for me, then we can go deep in this tournament.”
