The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are NFC East division rivals. But someone should let the lighting folks at the Empire State Building know that rivalries are supposed to mean something.
The Eagles reached the Super Bowl on Sunday with a dominant 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. It was a win that was never really in doubt, especially after both Niners quarterbacks Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson suffered injuries.
And while the Empire State Building lights up to celebrate and commemorate different causes on a nightly basis, you know Philadelphia would never light up its landmarks to celebrate a New York Giants conference title. That’s what made the green, white and green Empire State Building so surprising to see on Sunday.

I mean, they could have at least waited for the AFC Championship Game to conclude and use both team colors. Otherwise, it just looked silly to see the New York skyscraper celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fans weren’t particularly kind to the Twitter account’s admin either.
This was how Twitter reacted
Tell me that whoever is in charge of the lighting and Twitter account isn’t from New York without telling me https://t.co/C0bVE8o17a

Giants fans should probably riot over this, but they'd have to take the train into the city and that's such a hassle. https://t.co/v1mrUcWXuj

Never been more embarrassed in my life to be from New York
If Jacksonville lit the bridge up blue and red after the Titans hypothetically won the AFC Championship, the bridge would burn to the ground, and rightfully so https://t.co/XeQFQhoxwg

I was once at an alumni game watch with the president of my university and he cheered when the other team scored because he wasn’t paying attention
this is a worse “reading the room” moment than that https://t.co/DuPjnf6hPY

To be fair, it’s not like the Jets have given them much reason to use that color scheme. Still, read the room, Empire State Building!
