Amazon Pharmacy is offering eligible Medicare beneficiaries access to certain weight-loss medications for $50 a month through a newly launched federal bridge program, potentially lowering one of the biggest barriers to GLP-1 treatment: cost. The initiative is designed to make it easier for eligible patients to obtain the medications, with Amazon handling parts of the eligibility verification, prior authorization, and billing process. Patients can also receive medications through home delivery or in-store pickup.
The development comes as GLP-1-based medications have become increasingly prominent treatments for obesity. But as access expands, another medical question becomes increasingly important: what happens when someone stops taking the medication?
