The Edinburgh supermarkets offering free kids meals during Easter holidays

As Edinburgh school children enjoy the Easter holidays, families will be looking for ways to spend the time together.

As the high cost of living continues to hit homes across Scotland, supermarkets are offering deals to help children and families eat for less.

Morrisons have been in touch with customers to let them know that anyone can get a free bowl of cereal at the cafes in store. This Easter Morrisons has partnered with Kellogg’s to launch a breakfast club where the whole family can request a free bowl of cereal.

Both adults and children can choose from a bowl of Cornflakes, Rice Krispies or Coco Pops, with a choice of dairy and non dairy milk, when they order a ‘Kellogg’s breakfast’ before 11am, in any of Morrisons 397 cafés.

The joint initiative will run from April 3-24, while stock lasts, and aims to support families during the Easter holidays when many school breakfast clubs are unavailable.

Chris Strong, Morrisons Café Buying Manger, said: “We know that the school holidays can be a worrying time for families who need to cater for additional meals that would otherwise be covered at school, therefore we are pleased to be joining forces with Kellogg’s to offer our customers a free bowl of cereal when they visit a Morrisons café.”

Chris Silcock, Kellogg’s managing director, said: “We’ve been supporting school breakfast clubs across the UK for 25 years now with food and funding, but we know that there is a need for more provision in the school holidays. The scheme with Morrisons extends the support we can provide families outside of term time.”

Along with that, every Morrisons cafe is offering the kids the chance to eat for free with every adult meal that is priced at £4.49 or over that is purchased. The deal is currently available all day, every day for children under the age of 16 and meals must be chosen from the customer Café kids menu or chilled kids snack pack.

Meanwhile in Marks and Spencer, from April 3-14, you can get a free Kid’s Munch Meal(usually £4) when you spend £5 or more in a single transaction on non-kids food or drink.

The Kids’ Munch Meal includes main and a snack and drink, with delicious choices from classics such as jacket potato with beans and sausages to cheesy tomato pasta.

Asda has has also brought back its "Kids Eat For £1" offer in all of its cafes for this Easter holiday, and it comes with a refreshed menu.

The offer is available all day, every day and there is no minimum adult required spend.

And from 11am, if you are out in IKEA, families who have signed up to the IKEA Family can make use of their deal. Kids can enjoy pasta with tomato sauce and a soft drink for 95p, or any other kids meal for just £1.50.

McLarens on the Corner is also offering free meals to two children per dining adult from April. 3-14

A spokesperson for the restaurant said: "We are proud to be taking part in the Kids Eat Free campaign this year, offering a space for families across Edinburgh to come and treat their kids at a lower cost. We understand that many families rely on free school meals to ensure their children are receiving hot and nutritious lunches, and our three participating venues are here to step up to the plate."
