Better break out your fanciest digs and gird your loins, because the movie gods have heard our prayers. Amid all the on-and-off speculation for the last TWO DECADES, a Devil Wears Prada sequel is headed our way, and we’re now at the point of being blessed with an official trailer. Get ready to step back into the cutthroat world of Runway Magazine and the reign of Queen Miranda Priestly.
So, when will the sequel drop? Who’ll star in it? What does the trailer tell us? Here’s all the tea we know so far.
What is the release date of The Devil Wears Prada 2?
In good news, it doesn’t look like we’re going to be waiting ages, because Disney has officially confirmed the movie will drop this year.
Coming in hot off the presses — the release date has been confirmed as May 1, 2026. Mark your calendars, folks!!
Who will star in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
Okay, this is where it gets spicy. Disney has confirmed the original core four are back: Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly, obviously), Anne Hathaway (Andy Sachs), Emily Blunt (Emily, the OG savage assistant), and Stanley Tucci (Nigel, our forever fashion zaddy).
Anne Hathaway reunited with Streep and Blunt at the 2024 SAG Awards, where Blunt quoted Miranda Priestley as she sarcastically quipped “by all means, move at a glacial pace” at Streep for taking too long to open the winner’s envelope.
Sir Kenneth Branagh (yes, the actual Oscar winner) is also joining the cast as Miranda’s husband — you know, the one she threw some serious shade at in the first film. Apparently, things are still a bit icy at home for Miranda.
So, if you were worried about a Hathaway-shaped hole in the sequel, you can relax — she’s in, and so are the rest of the icons.
In more exciting news, a plethora of fresh faces have been confirmed to be joining The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast alongside our fab four.
Per Variety, the cast will include Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet!!!
Y’all, I’m still stumped on Lucy Liu. Do you remember that one “Barracuda” scene in Charlie’s Angels?
She’s the DEFINITION of office siren!!!!
Alongside Liu, Theroux, Novak and Chalamet, you can expect to see newcomers Helen J. Shen, Conrad Ricamora, Cale Hearon and YouTuber (who is finally in her acting era after a long hustle) Kennedy Walsh.
Oh, we’ll also be represented by Australia’s own Patrick Brammall, whose involvement — seemingly as a love interest for Andy — was revealed when on-set images leaked in August.
Deadline also reported that Bridgerton baddie Simone Ashley would be joining the cast as well as the Lady Gaga and even Bravo alum Paige DeSorbo. It’s going to be a diva convention!!
Original director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman are also returning, and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is back on script duties, per Collider.
Notably, Nate (Adrian Grenier) aka Andy’s boyfriend and in my opinion her number one opp, is reportedly not returning for the sequel, and I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Andy is better for it.
What will the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada be about?
Given how the first movie ended (which was *chefs kiss*, by the way), you’ve gotta wonder where things will go from here.
Some fans are wondering if it’ll follow the books, given Lauren Weisberger — who wrote The Devil Wears Prada novel that the film is based on — wrote her own sequel in 2016 titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.
She’s also written When Life Gives You Lululemons, which is centred on Blunt’s character Emily (rather than Hathaway’s Andy).
According to reports from Deadline, a sequel could feature a plot in which Priestly is still editor-in-chief of Runway Magazine years later, but the magazine is facing the wrath of the decline of the traditional publishing industry.
She’ll reportedly have to face off against none other than her former assistant Emily, who’s now a powerful executive at a luxury brand after getting booted off that Paris trip. TLDR; Runway Magazine needs money and Emily’s company’s got it, so will Miranda Priestley manage to snag that deal? With Andy as the new features editor at Runway, as per the trailer, one can hope!

It’s been a looong 19 years (!!!) since the first film dropped in 2006 and we finally have a proper peep at what the second movie will be about! Andy is officially the new features editor at Runway, Miranda has completely forgotten about Andy’s existence (allegedly) and Andy is spinning around on light poles in sparkly dresses, it’s perfection! The fashion Gods have truly blessed us because last year we also got an official teaser that doubles as a nostalgia trip for the ages. In it, Miranda recreated the infamous walking-to-the-elevator scene from the original (you know, the one that birthed “gird your loins”), proving that even two decades away from the halls of Runway Magazine can’t temper her fierce strut.
This time, however, Priestly was joined by her protégé Andy, who interrupted Miranda’s elevator ride before the pair both put on their sunglasses. “Took you long enough,” Miranda said in the clip, reviving her infamous “move at a glacial pace” quote from the first film.
Though clocking in at under a minute, the teaser is as glossy, stylish and frankly, cunty, as the original.
Beyond that teaser and the freshly released trailer, the only other morsel we’ve gotten is a brief title card moment shared by 20th Century Studios earlier last year featuring a pitchfork-shaped stiletto.
