The Cumulus is the Porsche of coffee machines, and it’s at the top of my holiday wish list

It’s the perfect gift for anyone who drinks cold brew nonstop (like I do).

I had a baby this year, and now I drink as much iced coffee as water these days. I need my caffeine quaffable, not burning, no matter the season—and so I find myself wishing I could easily make rich, smooth cold brew at home. (Maybe it’s the weird looks I get from the barista when it’s 20 degrees out.)

I’m also super picky about coffee gear. Kitchen tech has to look great on a clean countertop, where it’s always on display. I’m looking for solid builds, clean lines, and industrial design bona fides (one of my favorite pieces is the Fellow Ode Brew grinder, which was inspired by old Hi-Fi record players, its designer told me). It shouldn’t just be easy to use — it should be fun to operate, too. And it should do its sole job exceptionally well.

Enter the Cumulus Machine.

It makes still, nitro, or punchy “espresso” cold brew, all chilled in under a minute. It’s perfect for anyone who wastes too much money buying cold brew as a little treat (couldn’t be me!) instead of sullenly pouring their leftover coffee over ice.

Why we love it: Under the hood, there’s a built-in chiller alongside patent-pending hardware that pulls nitrogen from ambient air (no need to keep replacing tanks). On the outside, we’ve got a rotary dial for those who love the tactile experience of making coffee, even at its easiest. But the Cumulus is future-y in the right ways, more “gadget” than “appliance.” There’s zero clutter in the design, and zero waste in the ready-to-recycle coffee capsules at the end of the process. It reminds me of, say, a Porsche, how it’s engineered from scratch around a single, modern idea: ice-cold coffee done right, not as an afterthought.

What experts say: The product, founded by a former Starbucks exec and backed by Howard Schultz, earned raves from Serious Eats and Bon Appétit. “The Cumulus will pay for itself within the first year,” writes Noah Kaufman at BA. “It also makes better cold coffee than any of the other automatic machines I’ve tried so far that claim to have a cold-brew setting.”

Where to get it: Order from Cumulus and get $200 off the Cumulus Machine, plus free fast shipping and complimentary coffee.
