The Chase fans were left gutted on Tuesday evening as a trio of contestants missed out on a £21,000 jackpot by just three seconds.
Bradley Walsh hosted another episode of the popular ITV quiz show, where contestants took on one of The Chaser's in the hope of walking away with their share of a huge cash prize.
The team of Mike, Amerie, Alex had totted up the prize money against The Sinnerman Chaser Paul Sinha.
But in their bid to win a huge cash sum, Chaser Paul caught up with the hopefuls in the final closing moments on the show.
Paul leaned over the Chaser desk with furious concentration as he fought to catch the team in two questions with 12 seconds remaining.
Bradley asked: “In Monopoly how many properties make up the brown group”, which he correctly answered as two.
He then asked: “Montevideo is the most southerly capital on what continent?" which The Sinnerman correctly answered as South America, cinching the win with just three seconds to spare
The Chase viewers took to Twitter to comment on the “painful” closing moments of the show, as the prize money was wiped from the screen, with host Bradley saying “ouch”.
One user wrote: “£21,000 divided by 3 for 3 seconds remaining. That must truly hurt. #TheChase”
Another wrote: “Unlucky for the team. So close. Well played. Mike with his 11 was very impressive. #thechase”
A third wrote: “Ouch #TheChase”, while another tweeted: “Close one. #TheChase”
Another viewer wrote: “That one must have been hard to take #TheChase”
Contestant Mike had singled himself out earlier in the episode as he totted up an impressive £11,000 in the initial cash building round of questions.
This comes after The Chase contestants were left emotional on Monday night’s episode when they took home a staggering jackpot win against Chaser Shaun Wallace.
After contestant Chris was given the option of -£1,000, £4,000 or £45,000, he decided to take a gamble and go high, providing his team with a huge cash injection when he won.
After a tense final round of quickfire questions, the team of three were close to tears as they secured a £66,000 win.
When the game had finished and Shaun had failed to catch the team, he congratulated his opponents on their impressive win and singled out lawyer Francesca’s surprise performance.
The Chase viewers were equally delighted by the team’s win and took to Twitter to congratulate the contestants.
One fan wrote: “They just won 22k each on #TheChase and you could tell it's life changing for all of them. Was so lovely to see.”
Another tweeted: “Great game tonight thoroughly enjoyed it, got to go high that's the name of the game #thechase. Paid off in the end”
A third wrote: “What a win!!! What a team! Was getting close in the end! At one point, I thought the Chaser got them! Nail biting stuff #TheChase”
