The C8 Corvette Z06 Is Stupid Quick Around the Nurburgring

Even though the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has already been out for a few years now, the sports car hasn't recorded an official lap time on the Nurburgring. But in September, Germany’s Sport Auto put the American icon through its paces on the Green Hell to see how it stacks up to its high-performance competitors. Although unofficial, the Z06 returned an impressive lap time.

The Corvette completed the course in 7:10.51 with Sport Auto’s Christian Gebhardt at the wheel. It’s far from the fastest lap ever around the track, but it did beat the Porsche 918 Spyder (7:30.00), the Dodge Viper ACR (7:12.13), and a run of a Mercedes-AMG GT R also achieved riven by Gebhardt (7:10.92).

It’s hard to compare unofficial times, but one thing is for certain: The Z06 is quick around the track. And in a game measured in seconds, there’s likely room for some improvement. The Corvette completed the lap in its US-spec, with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires and no particulate filter to stifle its performance.

The Z06 debuted in late 2021, packing the naturally aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V-8 engine. It makes 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, rocketing the car to 60 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds, and it’s not even the most potent Corvette you can buy.

That’d be the 2025 Corvette ZR1 with its twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 and 1,064-hp output, and we can’t wait to see what time it returns when it hits the track.
