John Finnegan showed up at the worst possible moment on The Bold and the Beautiful. On the one hand, he showed up in the middle of a double homicide, with the possibility of more murders to come. Then again, could he be the killer?
One of the reasons Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was released from custody is that there’s no evidence she committed a crime. The bigger issue, as noted by both Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Hope (Annika Noelle), is that Sheila didn’t have a motive. Why would she kill the man who saved her life and the man who was her husband’s best friend?
Il Giardino was crowded when Tom (Clint Howard) made his soon-to-be-tragic return to the stage. Notably, though, Jack Finnegan (Ted King) was wandering through the crowd and had a conversation with his estranged wife, Li (Naomi Matsuda).
We know that Jack has feelings for Poppy (Romy Park); it has been hinted that they had a tryst behind Li’s back, and it’s even possible that Luna (Lisa Yamada) could have been Jack’s daughter.
So why would Jack kill Tom? Well, Jack would have known that Poppy and Tom were together back in the day, and that Tom being in town jeopardizes Poppy’s happily ever after with Bill (Don Diamont). If Jack has any lingering feelings for Poppy, he might kill Tom for her. Hollis (Hollis W. Chambers) would be collateral damage.
We know Jack stepped out on Li in the past, so maybe he was looking to curry favor with his former flame so that they could have a relationship on the side while Poppy builds her relationship with Bill.
Jack is the perfect suspect because he could use Li’s access to drugs to get what he needs and make it look like a professional job to throw the police off his trail. Knowing how tense his relationship with Li has been, setting Li up might not be a bad idea.
If Jack is like Bill, then Poppy could be viewed as “the one who got away.” Jack, in trying to help her, may have killed two people on her behalf because he may still have feelings for her.
