South Korea’s largest bookseller has rejected an overseas company’s request to buy 100,000 books amid concerns that they are being bought in bulk to train artificial intelligence systems without the authors’ consent.

Earlier this month, Kyobo Book Centre received an odd request. A company that appeared to have originated from overseas placed an order for 100,000 books, each a different title.
