The Bill set for huge comeback with two reboots 'to attract new generation'

Former ITV series The Bill is apparently making a huge comeback, with two reboots on the way according to new reports.

The police series, set in the fictional Sun Hill, could finally be back on screens soon according to fresh claims - with one series possibly airing as early as next year.

A year on from claims there could be two new series in the works, with some familiar faces back on board, The Sun has now claimed UKTV are "in the early stages of developing a new version" of the fan favourite.

The publication states that two reboots are in the works, and that it will be a new show entirely to "attract a new generation" of viewers.

A TV insider said: “In the minds of many producers and execs, The Bill is a drama which is just sitting, waiting, to be rebooted.

"It’s a simple format but one which attracted a loyal army of followers who would be delighted to see it return.

“No doubt any new incarnation would be tweaked to make it attract a whole new generation to the show.”

The Bill launched in 1983 but was sadly axed in 2010, after 26 series on ITV - while old episodes do continue to air.

Viewers have long since hoped for a return of the hit series with the old favourites back.

It follows claims from last year that actors Graham Cole, Trudie Goodwin and Mark Wingett were all in talks about reprising their roles.

The former cast members were reportedly helping writer Simon Sansome with plans to revise the series.

It was also claimed that the new crime drama would be called Sun Hill, however, it was not confirmed which channel would pick up the show - or if any of these details have since changed.

“The project started picking up pace last year after the cast got together to mark ten years since the show last aired," the source said at the time.

"Simon started investigating the rights and managed to acquire them. Three of the best known stars are in talks and he’s hopeful he can get them on board. Tony has seen the script and they hope they can get him signed up too."

The television source added that there would be a mix of new stars alongside the more recognisable original cast members at the Sun Hill police station.
