Cardiff Bay
With is restaurants, bars, and waterside walks, Cardiff Bay was a popular answer for our readers. Suzanne Frampton said it was her favourite place to go on a sunny day in the capital. saying: "So much to do and take a ride on the boat around the bay."
The Parks
Cardiff has plenty of green parks in which residents can enjoy a sunny day. There's plenty to choose from, with our readers recommending their favourite spots around the city. Roath Park, with its beautiful lake, was a popular choice. Debbie Smith wrote: "Roath Park. Sit and people watch, feed the birds, have a coffee or ice cream just chill out or walk around lake and gardens."
Meanwhile, Terry Edwards said the best place to go on a sunny day was Heath Park: "The model steam railway in Heath Park. It’s the first open day of the year on Sunday." Bute Park and Victoria Park, were also popular options among those who responded. Paul Cross added: "A walk around Cefn Onn is great in any weather."
Insole Court
In Llandaff sits Gothic mansion house, Insole Court. It has beautiful grounds and gardens to explore, as well as a gift shop and coffee shop with outdoor seating where you can enjoy the sunshine. Unsurprisingly, this was also recommended as a good spot for a sunny day by our readers. Susan Brooks wrote: "Insole Court - Statley home, acres of grounds, £5 entry fee to look around the home. Or just walk along the grounds or just and have a cuppa and cake before another walk around."
St Fagans
With plenty of gardens and grounds to explore, St Fagans makes a great place to visit on a sunny day. You can explore the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle, the pretty beech woodland, or the parkland, which is full of birds, bats, and other animals. There are also plenty of old houses and sites to see and learn more about the history of Cardiff.
The pub
Cardiff is lucky enough to have a wealth of good pubs with fantastic beer gardens to spend a sunny day and many of our readers said that they head straight to their local when the sun is shining. While it's in the Vale of Glamorgan rather than Cardiff, Penarth was an incredibly popular answer from our readers. Just a stone's throw away from Cardiff Bay in the Vale of Glamorgan, Penarth is extremely popular on a sunny day, with plenty of chip shops and the pier to enjoy. Lisa Jayne Powell was among the people who listed it as their favourite place to spend a sunny day, saying: "I like the small shops and fish and chips on the sea front."
The more unusual options
While some of our readers suggested heading outside, others had some more unusual recommendations for how to spend a sunny day in Cardiff. Mark Wilbur suggested heading into Primark: "Hopefully it'll be empty you can get served in under an hour when the sun's out."
