The best fish and chip shops on the NC500 to try out this summer

One of the UK's most popular road trips, the NC500 will be expecting thousands of visitors this summer.

And while many will be bedazzled by its incredible scenery and the warm Highland welcome, there will be those who will be looking to try the finest cuisine the regions they'll be travelling through has to offer.

And one staple which people are always a fan of is the classic fish and chips, with crunchy golden batter and the freshest crumbliest haddock a warming comfort that's not to be missed.

With that in mind, we've put together a list of some of the best chippies you'll find on the route should you fancy grabbing one along the way.

The Friary, Beauly, IV4 7BX

The Friary serves up some truly delicious fish and chips (The Friary)

Just west of Inverness, in the picturesque village of Beauly, The Friary is well known to NC500 fans as being one of the best places to grab a fish supper on the route.

Using only locally sourced North Atlantic Haddock, which can be breaded or come in a gluten-free batter as well as their usual golden coating, and chips made from potatoes from the northeast coast, their suppers are always a welcome treat.

The Trawler, Golspie, KW10 6TG

If you're heading to visit the fairytale Dunrobin Castle, then a stop at this excellent little fish and chip shop for a refuel could be just what's needed.

Open seven days a week until 8pm, they are well known for their mouth-watering fish and chips, with their shop having served locals and tourists since it launched in the 60s.

The Seaforth Fish and Chip Shop, Ullapool, IV26 2UE

Well-known for its seafood, the beautiful fishing village of Ullapool is where you'll find the award-winning Seaforth Fish and Chip Shop.

Regularly receiving reviews from all over the world naming them “The Best Fish and Chips in the UK", their hand-cut and twice-fried chips are some of the best around and their Crispy Haddock in a bun and chips is a fan favourite.

The Storehouse Restaurant and Farm Shop, Evanton, Dingwall IV16 9UX

Heading north to Evanton, near Dingwall, you'll find the always amazing Storehouse Restaurant and Farm Shop.

The ideal place to stock up for your trip, they also offer top-notch fish and chips from their restaurant which has views over the Cromarty Firth to the Black Isle meaning you can sit outside on nice days enjoying the views and the weather.

Kylesku Hotel, Sutherland, IV27 4HW

If you haven't heard of the Kylesku Hotel then you have definitely been missing out on one of the true hidden gems of the Highlands.

It'll come as no surprise that a Hotel that is known Scotland wide for its incredible seafood would also gain plenty of plaudits for its fish and chips but the Kylesku doesn't do things by half.
