The Ange Postecoglou Celtic 'backbone and integrity' factor over Leeds link floated by Simon Jordan

Ange Postecoglou has 'backbone and integrity' and won't leave Celtic at this time.

That's the verdict of talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan, who can see why Leeds United would want to speak to the Hoops gaffer about their vacant post after axing Jesse Marsch. Previously the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard have left the Old Firm for Aston Villa and Leicester City in the English Premier League but he reckons a gig down south doesn't hold the same relationship for the Aussie gaffer.

His job at Parkhead if his first in Europe whereas Rodgers and Gerrard have history with England's top flight and wanted to make that jump back using Rangers and Celtic as 'stepping stones' according to Jordan. Postecoglou's name has been in the mixer on a number of occasions this season for jobs south of the border with the 57-year-old not interested in leaving the Scottish champions at this stage.

The Elland Road club are the latest in that line of clubs linked as they begin their job hunt in a bid to survive in the Premier League this season. Pundit Jordan is a big fan of Postecoglou's attitude and as a former club chairman admits he is someone he would like to talk to but concedes he doesn't think the timing would be right to try and prize him away.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “He’d be someone that I’d want to talk to although I’m not sure this would be the right time for Ange Postecoglou.

“The tragedy for Scottish football is that managers see Rangers and Celtic as a stepping stone. As soon as grown up clubs from the English Premier League come calling, they want to make the jump, like Steven Gerrard did.

“I think Postecoglou is a bit different though. He doesn’t have the same relationship with the Premier League. He’ll have got the memo about it being the best league in the world, but he seems to have a backbone and integrity.”
