The 5 kitchen trends designers say will be huge in 2025

A kitchen with pink walls with wall art, a gold splashback, dark blue cabinets, and a wooden kitchen island with a chopping board with tomatoes on it.

When it comes to updating your home with trends, the kitchen is one of the most important areas to focus on. It's the place where you cook, eat, and share special memories, so it makes sense to give it some TLC.

I've asked interior designers for the trends they think will be huge next year and they've come back with some brilliant things clients have already been asking for. From open-plan kitchens to sustainable materials, there are plenty of interesting ideas to try.

If you're looking to bring the latest design trends into your home, adding sizzling new styles to this space is worth doing.

1. Sustainability

One of the biggest interior trends this year has been sustainability, with more designers reaching for materials that are better for the environment.

“Using eco-friendly materials like bamboo or cork flooring and countertops made of recycled glass or concrete is popular,” says Pam Hutter, design expert and principal designer at Hutter Architects.

These natural materials soften the look of modern kitchens while reducing environmental impact.

2. Versatile spaces

With more people adding personality into their homes this year, design pros have seen clients asking for interiors they can easily switch up if they require.

“I often incorporate convertible furniture, like tables that fold away or stools that can be stored,” Pam explains.

For renters, she suggests trying peel-and-stick tiles wallpaper or tiles, as they provide an affordable, low-commitment backsplash option that can transform how the space feels.

I like the look of the Art3d PVC Peel and Stick Mosaic Tiles from Wayfair, which are water-resistant and will make any small space look luxe.

3. Clever lighting

You probably have kitchen pendant lighting or lights under your stove hood. But, if you want to go for modern kitchen ideas, it’s time to get even more creative.

“Under-cabinet LED strip lights brighten work areas and make ceilings appear higher,” explains Pam.

For example, the MCGOR Under Cabinet Lights from Amazon have over 10,000 five-star reviews from shoppers who say they're easy to install and to recharge.

As well as using these, you can also maximize natural light in small kitchens with elegant touches.

“Strategically placed mirrors and reflective surfaces are an easy trick to make a small kitchen feel more open and airy,” adds Nick Chatzigeorgakis, interior designer at Intrabuild.

4. Open-concept layouts

Having a kitchen that blends into other areas of the home will make your space feel more spacious and inviting for guests.

Open-concept kitchen layouts that connect this room to to living areas are popular, creating a sense of spaciousness even in small spaces,” explains Bob Berriz, interior designer at Berriz Design.

He suggests adding neutral color palettes, mixed metals, and high-gloss finishes to these to add subtle sophistication.

5. Extra amenities

Instead of just having the basics, more renters and homeowners are adding bijou extras to their kitchens to make the most of the space they have.

“Amenities like coffee machines and wine fridges elevate the space into an entertainment hub,” explains Bob.

You can also go for small kitchen appliances in fun styles, such as retro toasters, to enhance your kitchen countertop decor.

These kitchen trends are all chic and easy to bring into your home. But, before you commit to any trend, make sure that you actually love the style, as you're the one that will be living in the space.

If you do want to carry on seeking stylish ideas for this room, kitchen cabinet ideas are also worth looking at.
