Picking out the best sci-fi movies ever made is no easy task, especially since the genre keeps on growing. Sci-fi movies originally boomed in the 1950s, with the likes of The Fly and The Blob, then became even bigger in the '60s with 2001: A Space Odyssey. Today, the genre is also still kicking with Avatar 3's recent release (read our Avatar: Fire and Ash review for more on that), and the upcoming movie, Dune: Part Three also on the horizon.
Basically, we are spoiled for choice here. From aliens to space voyages to dystopian futures, the genre has given us everything we've ever wanted in more when it comes to cinema. However, despite the ever-growing pool of choices, we've managed to settle on 30 of the greatest flicks, which everyone should watch at least once in their life. Our list of the best sci-fi movies to watch right now covers everything from cute Pixar robots and sand-covered planets to journeys into the frozen unknown and, well, Star Wars, of course.
