The £10 dehumidifier that shoppers claim has completely rid their homes of mould

After days of bitterly cold weather, and with the low temperatures set to continue, many households are wrapping up warm and turning up the heating where needed. However, even with the heating on, if your home has poor insulation there is a risk of black mould and moisture.

Mould can be a serious health hazard and so it is important to make sure there is as little of it in the home as possible. One popular way of treating and preventing mould is by using a dehumidifier, but these hardly come cheap and in some cases can take up a fair bit of room.

But some thrifty shoppers think they have found an alternative, costing just a fraction of the price at £10 from B&Q. The UniBond Aero 360 Pure Moisture Absorber Dehumidifier is getting rave reviews from customers and cited as a way of getting rid of black mould in their homes, reports Birmingham Live.

The dehumidifier contains a 360° air circulation block which helps to fight things such as condensation and mould. Shoppers have been praising the item online.

One user Tinks0411 said: "I bought this last week as my windows seem to now have constant condensation since the temperature has dropped. It started to work within 12 hours and now my windows are clear of water puddles and condensation. I was so dubious to use this due to the cheap price tag and it being a simple mechanism but it really does work.

"I have ordered another one and the lavender refill tablets as this will now be a permanent fixture in my flat until the winter months pass. Definitely worth the money!"

And 'The Oaf' said: "Our building is an old build, with thick walls and poor ventilation. The steam produced from any use of hot water has nowhere to go, so when we first moved in, black mould was rampant.

"Once we started using this, it really helped reduce that problem. Had it years now, and it's still going, so well built."

And Laura DD said: "We recently moved into a new (old) house, and the walls were literally dripping any time we hung laundry with the heat on! I ordered one of these as didn’t want our electricity bill going any higher, and it was a great purchase!

"We haven’t had any drips since, and the little guy is half full of fluid already after around a month of use which just shows how well it is working. I have since discovered that the liquid/insert are toxic which is slightly worrying, but for now it needs to be used so I will carry on!"
