Thailand begin their second-round campaign against Canada at the FIVB Women's World Championship on Tuesday as they aim to reach the quarter-finals.

The world No.13 Thais have a high chance of beating No.15 Canada -- their lowest-ranked opponents in Pool F in the last-16 round -- in Lodz, Poland.

Thailand will face No.14 Germany on Wednesday, No.4 Serbia on Friday and the top-ranked USA on Saturday.

Thailand will not have to play the other teams in Pool F -- Turkey, Poland and the Dominican Republic -- who came from the same first-round pool.

The second-round standings take into account points secured by each team in both first and second rounds.

The championship is being held in Poland and the Netherlands until Oct 15.

The top-four teams in each pool will advance to the quarter-finals.

In the first round, Thailand had four wins against Turkey, Croatia, South Korea and the Dominican Republic and only one loss to Poland.

With the results, Thailand moved up one spot to No.13 in the world rankings.

"This was our best-ever result in the first round of a world championship," Thailand coach Danai Wacharasrimaytakul said.

Thailand captain Pornpun Guedpard said all opponents in the second round are strong.

"We will give our all to reach the third round [quarter-finals]," said the setter.

Thailand are playing in their seventh world championship, with their best finish being 13th in the 2010 and 2018 tournaments.
