To say things didn’t go well for the defending national champions on Saturday would be an understatement.
No. 3 Texas came into Michigan Stadium as 7.5-point favorites in Week 2 and absolutely rocked No. 10 Michigan, 31-12. It didn’t look good for the Wolverines from pretty much the beginning.
The Longhorns built up a 24-3 lead at halftime, in part thanks to quarterback Quinn Ewers throwing two first-half touchdowns on his way to three total. The Wolverines didn’t score a touchdown until the final two minutes.
To be clear, this Michigan team is not the same one that finished on top last season. The squad lost several top players to the NFL, along with now-Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, also now with the Chargers. But still, after a College Football Playoff appearance and national championship, Michigan fans surely hoped this high-profile game would have gone better.

Tom Brady even joined Fox’s halftime broadcast from Cleveland (where he’ll be part of the network’s NFL broadcast of Sunday’s Browns-Cowboys matchup) and said: “It’s been tough to watch this first half. I was hoping I’d come on here and be talking about the opposite score there.”

Things didn’t get much better for the Wolverines in the second half, as Texas continued manhandling them. Michigan’s porous defense couldn’t stop Ewers and a high-powered offense, while the Wolverines’ offense had two interceptions and a fumble.
College football fans reacted to Texas blowing out Michigan with so many jokes and jabs during and after the game, including from Garrett Wilson and Bijan Robinson.
