Texas Man Charged With Seeking To Provide Bomb-Making Materials To Someone He Believed Was An ISIS Operative

A Texas man has been charged with seeking to provide bomb-making materials to someone he believed was an ISIS operative.

Concretely, John Michael Garza Jr. was charged with international terrorism, according to U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould.

CBS News detailed that the meeting in which Garza Jr. brought the materials took place on December 22. Unaware he was actually meeting with an undercover FBI, the man explained how to mix components and offered to send a video with further instructions to build a bomb. He was arrested after leaving the meeting.

Garza's support for ISIS was spotted by an undercover New York City police officer. He began chatting with Garza online, with the latter sharing that he adhered to ISIS ideology and also sent crypto to accounts he believed helped the terrorist group and its causes.

"This case is a testament to the incredible work of our federal agents, who work tirelessly to save American lives," said Attorney General Pam Bondi in a release following the charges.

"ISIS's poisonous ideology must be ripped out root and stem — anyone who tries to commit violence on ISIS's behalf will be found, arrested, and prosecuted. You cannot hide from us," she added.

The charges come almost a year after the New Year's Day attack carried out in New Orleans, when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a Texas-born U.S. citizen and Army veteran, drove a pickup truck into crowds on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring dozens.
