The Houston Texans will have a new starting quarterback in Week 15, but it won’t be Davis Mills.
The team will reportedly start veteran Case Keenum under center against the Tennessee Titans with C.J. Stroud doubtful with a concussion, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson.
Keenum, 35, hasn’t played a snap this season as the team’s third-string quarterback. He signed with the Texans this offseason, more than a decade after Keenum began his career in Houston as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He played two seasons with the Texans before stints with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.
While Keenum hasn’t played a full game since 2021, he provides more veteran experience than Mills. Keenum has started 64 career games in his career with 14,884 passing yards, 78 passing touchdowns and 48 interceptions. Mills, meanwhile, had a very inconsistent two years as a part-time starter before Stroud came into the fold.
The Texans are knocking on the door of a playoff berth, so it makes sense they’d want to go with a more experienced quarterback at a critical point in the season. The team also won’t have a few other stars, including wideout Nico Collins.
Keenum wouldn’t move the needle like Stroud would, but he should be able to play more effectively and more mistake-free than Mills in Week 15.
