With 6:44 to go in the first quarter, Howard was injured on a Royce Freeman run. Howard went to the blue medical tent on the sideline and then into the locker room. The Texans stated that Howard was questionable to return as he was in the concussion protocol.

Howard had played left guard going back to Week 15 as first-rounder Kenyon Green from Texas A&M has missed with an ankle injury. The pairing of Howard and Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil opened up running lanes for Freeman and Dare Ogunbowale.

In the third quarter, the Texans downgraded Howard to out.
