Tesco shoppers have been warned about a fake refund email.
According to consumer website Which?, the email claims shoppers are due a refund due to a 'system error'. If a person receives the phishing email, it claims the shopper made a complaint in store as ‘something was wrong with a purchased item’ and due to a 'reported error' it stopped the person getting the compensation.
The email asks to verify an email address and includes a link to do this. According to Which?, the email did not have any Tesco branding and in order to appear legitimate it included random employee names. It claimed to be from a 'Polly Gallagher' whose title was Regional Response Administrator.

Which? said the email does not reference Tesco in the copy and the website only found out it related to the supermarket when it searched for it in Google Maps. People are told to delete the email if they received it.
Tesco also confirmed the email was fake. The supermarket told Which?: "We don’t want anyone to fall victim to these types of scams. To help customers, we have a dedicated page which gives helpful tips on how to spot and avoid scams online.
"If you receive an email that appears to be a scam, you should report it to phishing@tesco.com and then delete it without responding."
If people receive a phishing email they are warned not to click on any links included as this might share personal details with fraudsters. They are also urged not to be tempted to reply to the email.
