Tesco F&F fans notice footwear range has disappeared from stores

Shoppers have questioned supermarket chain Tesco over its decision to cease selling footwear under its native F+F fashion brand. Fans have noticed the change in stores in recent weeks, and have taken to social media to voice their disappointment.

According to an article in Just Style in 2021, the somewhat controversial move was announced in September that year and was expected to come into force in September 2022. At the time, fashion industry news brand Drapers reported that it was due to “profitability and difficulties in making those specific products sustainable", with some accessories also affected as well as shoes.

This has since been noticed in stores, and despite the supermarket chain still providing footwear for schoolchildren, many customers are still not happy with the move, having depended on the purse string-friendly brand in previous years.

Commenting on an F&F Instagram post this week, @hdbatchelor9 asked: "Why has TESCO stopped selling footwear???????" @jo_chaplin wrote on the same post: "Lovely dress but a shame Tesco has decided to close all changing rooms and also stop selling footwear. Not good."

On Twitter, @LornaCWells said: "Tesco can you tell me who's brilliant idea it was to stop selling shoes for younger children. Just been informed that only slippers and school shoes will be available from now on - what about nursery age children who need affordable footwear?!?!?!"

Another, @clarehoskins said: "Why is NOBODY discussing the fact that Tesco and FandF clothing have STOPPED selling footwear in-store and online. Gutted. Completely gutted. Honestly, the most comfortable shoes and boots for adults and kids (great high arch)."

@SteveSears3, another Twitter user, said in September: "What’s with the decision to stop selling footwear in your stores? That’s a bad move Tesco," which prompted the company to respond.

A spokesperson for the 103-year-old supermarket chain replied: "Hi Stephen, details of what we sell and when we sell them or reasons for stopping selling products in our stores is business sensitive information.

"No additional information will be offered on this decision, I'm sorry."

In reply to another tweet this month, a Tesco spokesperson added: "We've made the decision to reduce our F&F footwear range. Our slippers range will continue to be available. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience this may cause."
