Tesco cuts price of more than 500 household staples including fruit, veg, milk and cheese

Tesco has cut the price of more than 500 household essentials saying it aims to help customers reduce the price of their weekly shop. Hundreds of products are included in the huge new price drop, which focuses on products that are bought week-in, week-out, as well as summer favourites and healthy choices like fruit and veg.

Shoppers will see bills for the more than 500 products drop by an average of 13% on everyday items, including pasta, rice, fish and fruit and vegetables. Other key products to see their prices fall include:

  • Tesco Tinned Tuna (145g)– down 10p to 80p
  • 3 pack of Peppers – down 15p to £1.65
  • Tesco 400g Block Cheddar – down 20p to £3.20
  • 4-Pint Milk – down a further 10p to £1.45
  • Tesco Red Grapes – down 20p to £1.80
  • Tesco Fusilli Pasta (500g) down a further 5p to £0.75
  • Tesco Free From Pasta (500g) – down 45p to £0.75
  • Tesco Easy Cook Long Grain Rice (1kg) – down 35p to £1.25
  • Tesco Strawberry/Raspberry Jam (454g) – down 16p to £0.99
  • Tesco Tie Top Bin Bags (50L x 20pk) – down 25p to £2.50
  • Tesco Frozen Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries & Mango – down 25p to £2.25
  • Tesco Frozen Cod Fillets (360g) – down 25p to £3.75
  • Tesco Orange Juice With Bits Not From Concentrate (1L) – down 20p to £1.50

The latest 5p price cut on Tesco Pasta is the second in recent weeks and means customers will pay 20p less for a 500g pack than they would have in May. The 10p reduction in milk means customers will now pay 20p less for a 4-pint bottle of milk than they would have in April.

Tesco Chief Product Officer, Ashwin Prasad, said: “We know that more than ever our customers are looking for great value, and this huge round of price cuts on 500 key household essentials will help their budgets go a little further.

"With price cuts on products like grapes, peppers, rice and tuna, customers will find it’s even cheaper to eat healthily with Tesco this summer. And we’ll continue to work closely with our suppliers to pass on price cuts to our customers whenever we can.”

To help families with the cost of feeding little ones in the holidays, Tesco is also announcing that Kids Eat Free will run again this summer – offering a free children’s meal when a paying adult presents their Clubcard and spends as little as 60p in 310 Tesco Cafes across the UK.

The ever-popular offer coincides with the school holidays and will run on weekdays from July 24 to September 1 in England and Wales, from July 3 to September 1 in Northern Ireland and from July 3 to August 11 in Scotland.

Today’s price cut announcement is just the latest price reduction from Tesco, which has cut the price of key household essentials like bread, butter, cooking oil and milk in recent weeks.

It says customers can save even more on their shopping through its value offering – including hundreds of staples on Aldi Price Match and more than 1,000 price locked lines on Low Everyday Prices. Tesco also has more than 8,000 exclusive weekly deals on Clubcard Prices – offering savings of up to 50% on branded and own-brand favourites.
