Federal agencies recently disclosed that an Iranian national with known terrorist ties was apprehended while illegally crossing the U.S. northern border. Shockingly, the individual managed to remain in the country for six weeks before being removed. This alarming incident comes amidst a concerning surge in the number of known or suspected terrorists detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department. According to ICE, during the last fiscal year, 139 individuals with terror links were arrested, an alarming increase compared to the previous year.
Experts and former ICE officials have expressed growing concerns about the potential formation of terror cells and the entry of dangerous individuals into the United States. While the southern border usually garners more attention and resources, concerns have been raised about the often overlooked northern border, particularly as Canada has more lenient asylum and refugee policies. Infiltrators with malicious intentions frequently choose the path of least resistance, opting to enter Canada before attempting to cross into the United States through the northern border, where resources are comparatively scarce.
