Giant snakes, a blood-soaked clown and the legendary Bigfoot are just some of the strange and monstrous sights picked up by chance on Google Maps.
Despite having the entire world at our finger tips, most people tend to use the Street View tool to check for directions - or to admire own own homes from an outsider's perspective.
But if you delve a little deeper into the virtual atlas, there's an array of weird and worrying images to be found from all corners of the earth.
Users online have shared their theories for some of these seemingly-inexplicable discoveries - but a few have left viewers scratching their heads.
Here are eight of the creepiest sightings from Google Maps.

TikTok account Googlemapsfun posted a video titled "Creepiest things Google Maps recorded without knowing it" which has already been liked over 200,000 times.
The video's narrator explains how a Maps user was searching through an area of Russian forest when he spotted a hairy two-legged creature standing at around seven foot tall in the clearing.
He goes on to say the monster bears striking similarity to the famed Sasquatch.
Despite the so-called sighting, the ape-like cryptid isn't believed to roam as far north as Russia, with Bigfoot watchers saying he calls the expansive woodlands of north America his home.
Largest snake in existence?
In France, satellites picked up what looks to be a giant snake lying just off the coast.
The huge reptilian figure would be the largest snake in existence, as Googlemapsfun pointed out - but viewers were quick to offer an explanation.
Completed in 2012, "Serpent d’océan" is a giant aluminum sea serpent skeleton by artist Huang Yong Ping, situated off the shore of the Loire River just outside of Nantes.
Measuring nearly 425 feet in length, the curving skeleton mirrors the curves of the nearby Saint-Nazaire bridge and was created as a permanent work for the final Estuaire contemporary art exhibition in 2012.
One without such an obvious explanation lies in the Indonesian jungle.
Googlemapsfun zoomed in on a colossal snake-like shape which appears to stretch along the river bank, as the narrator asks: "What is this? If you don't want to get attacked by giant snakes, I suggest you do not visit these dangerous-seeming places."
Killer clown
Undoubtedly human but terrifying nonetheless, a blood-soaked clown resembling Stephen King's Pennywise was spotted on Google Maps wielding a knife and lurking creepily in a door frame.
In the screenshot, the nightmarish figure stands peering out of a door spattered in "blood" at the entrance of a flat in Montreal, Canada.
The shot was perfectly timed by the prankster, as he is now leaving online explorers across the globe horrified at the sight of the creepy clown, brandishing a bloody blade just as the Google camera van drove by.
Whether they knew about the van making its rounds and planned the event - or if they were simply at a Halloween party and thought they might as well make some mischief - is anyone's guess.
Scarecrow or corpse?
Maps users were left terrified by a scarecrow that they claimed looked like a dead body in Portland, Oregon.
Reddit user @Cinnamonbunns2 claimed to have been looking for parking near a nightlife venue called Crystal Ballroom, when they came across a shadowy figure.
The person-shaped creation was stood with its arms out, with a white carrier bag over his head - leading some to believe the sighting was a corpse rather than a scarecrow.
One user called him a 'handless man' with a bag on his head.
And the discovery left locals even more spooked following recent murders in the area.
One user said: "A guy was shot and killed at midnight two weeks ago in front of the old Starbucks at 20th and Morrison. Totally not a bad area to walk around at all lol."
Open graves
And that's not the first time someone believed they found a dead body on the app.
Last year, Google Maps viewers spotted what seemed to be a sinister discovery in a remote spot.
Satellite images revealed an aerial view of what looked like two bodies lying side-by-side in what appear to be graves dug into a ditch.
But the viral images are not quite what they seemed to the terrified Maps users who stumbled across them online.
Each grave is open with a large pile of dirt next to them, suggesting they have been freshly dug into precise rectangles that appear custom-sized to fit the men.
No one else can be seen in the vicinity and there is not a shovel in sight.
It was later revealed that the men pictured in the graves are in fact a married couple, acting out pieces of performance art.
Cloaked figures in ghost town
In a viral TikTok video, user Jason Cline shared an earie find in an abandoned mining town in Nevada.
In the video, Cline showed viewers the ghost town of Rhyolite, located around 120 miles outside of Las Vegas.
As he zooms in on a thumb print-like engraving in the earth, the TikToker reveals a creepy cloaked figure hunched over a bicycle - but that's not the scariest part.
As he rotates the camera's view, a dozen more ghost-like figures in white cloaks that appear to be conducting a sort of ceremony.
At first glance the shapes seem life-like, as Cline stated in the video: "What you're about to see, I cannot explain and I do not understand. Literally, I do not think I'm supposed to see this."
In reality however, the figures are statues in an art installation created by Belgian artist Albert Szukalski in 1984. Over the course of 16 years, Szukalski built five other large art installations in the surrounding desert area, forming the Goldwell Open Air Museum.
Ghostly presence near cemetery
Reddit users were left scratching their heads after a Google Maps sleuth spotted an eerie "ghostly figure" near a cemetery.
The mysterious image, posted to the subreddit r/GoogleMaps, revealed what appears to be the outline of a blueish ghost in an empty forest.
The Reddit user captioned the screengrab: "When it comes to ghosts, I'm a cynic at best. But this street view's sun flare has me spooked."
The image has left many perplexed Reddit users guessing what the image could be.
It even had one user questioning their belief in ghosts with many sharing their theories.
One person commented: "It happens to be near a cemetery, a torn down covered bridge and what seems like an abandoned lodge. If ghosts had to exist, this seems like a likely place for all that to coagulate? I don't believe in ghosts normally, it's all in spooky fun for me and yet this gives me pause."
Halloween drug cartel
Another mysterious Reddit discovery saw a group of apparent cartel members in creepy masks unearthed on Google Maps.
The photo of the gang members was shared on the Reddit subreddit r/GoogleMaps with the caption “I just found the masked guys in Mexico.”
Four masked men can be seen standing on a road in Moctezuma in Sonora, Mexico.
One of them has a harrowing Scream mask on and another a Mexican luchador face covering.
A third is dressed like a werewolf alongside a man in a balaclava and hat.
The men were photographed in the area once known for the Sonora Cartel, one of the oldest and best-established gangs in the country.
They made their name as one of the first cartels to ship cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine into the US.
One user commented: “That’s the cartel. You wanna stay far far away from those masks.”
