Terrified pony covered in snow lifted to safety after getting stuck in CATTLE GRID

Firefighters rescued a terrified pony after it found itself stuck in cattle grid.

The poor pony was lifted to safety with a harness after getting its hooves trapped between the bars in Gloucestershire on Sunday.

Fire & rescue crews said the pony had become stuck and covered in snow when they were called out to its aid.

Safety harnesses were looped under its belly with the creature heaved out from between the grid.

And despite making it out in one piece, pictures show the farm animal with a bloodied hind leg after getting wounded in the fiasco.

Rescue teams also covered the pony with a blanket to keep it warm from the snow and sub-zero temperatures.

It comes as the region, along with other parts of the UK, were blanketed with a layer of snow yesterday and overnight, with last night the coldest night of the year so far.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “Crews from Gloucester, Cinderford and Coleford have assisted a pony from getting their hoof stuck in a cattle grid.

"Great work with owners to keep the pony comfortable while the equipment was set up and the rescue took place on a cold afternoon.”

Pictures showed firefighters using harnesses to support the horse around the middle while its hoof is examined.

One firefighter holds the harness whole another places a reassuring hand on the animal as somebody checks out its injured leg.
