The ECHO has taken a look at some Merseyside pubs seeking a new landlord or landlady.
Across the region there are a range of venues in need of new managers, from city centre watering holes, quiet country outposts and well-known venues in coastal hotspots.
While the initial input may be high, there's potential to turnover hundreds of thousands of pounds per year. Opportunities are currently available through a number of outlets, including pub giants Greene King, Thwaites, Stonegate, Punch Taverns and Star Pubs & Bars.

Here is a round-up of ten venues across Merseyside seeking someone to take the reins.
The Butterfly & Grasshopper, Liverpool city centre
Located on Oldham Street, off Renshaw Street and in the shadow of the Bombed Out Church, The Butterfly & Grasshopper boasts a first-class city centre location. Accommodation is spread over two floors and comprises a bar, a separate dining room and a catering kitchen.
According to Star Pubs, potential lies in "developing a well thought through food and drinks offer". The estimated minimum costs would be £16,081 and the annual rent is £43,600, with the potential turnover a little shy of £600,000 a year.
Marine Bar & Kitchen, Waterloo
Punch Taverns is seeking a "big personality who’ll thrive running a busy pub" that benefits from a prime corner plot on the bustling South Road. Any interested party should be prepared for an initial outlay of about £5,000, comprising a £3,000 deposit and £2,000 in working capital. However, there's a potential turnover of more than £530,000 per year in drinks alone and a further £130,000 on food.
The Fox, Maghull
Nestled down the largely residential Foxhouse Lane, an "operator with considerable experience serving traditional pub grub and a keen interest in sports" is being sought by Punch Taverns. The annual rent on the sprawling space is just £25,000. The Fox also has excellent rail links and is within walking distance of two train stations.
Cheshire Lines, Southport
A revamp is planned to transform Cheshire Lines, which is near Southport's mains shopping thoroughfare, into a "modern, community pub". Star Pubs is planning to install new lighting and furniture, breathe new life into the aesthetic, and carry out "essential works" on the toilets. The company hopes a facelift for the listing building will enhance its kerb appeal.
Weld Blundell Arms, Lydiate
Favoured by locals, 'The Wellie' is hailed as a "fantastic opportunity" by Star Pubs and would be "ideal for an innovative foodie who can expand on the food offering the Weld Blundell is famous for". The space was revamped just five years ago and includes open fires, a large bar and a dining area. There's the potential to turnover almost £680,000 on a rent of £46,330.
Gardeners Arms, Woolton
This "well-loved" community pub on Vale Road is "drinks led" according to Punch Taverns, specialising in live sports and entertainment. The listing added: "The Gardeners Arms is the ideal pub opportunity for a first-time operator looking to take on their first pub. It's an open plan space with a central bar which also includes three bedrooms and a kitchen. Annual rent is £27,500.
The Wirral Hundred, Noctorum
This "highly visible roadside venue" is a bright, open plan pub with a catering kitchen able to provide for up to 70 customers. The listing by Star Pubs & Bars said: "We're looking for an operator with the ability to introduce a food offer to attract new trade along with a quality drinks offering, games teams and TV sport."
The Greenland Fishery Hotel, Neston
This "iconic" venue in the heart of Neston comprises a bar area, games area, a beer garden and an extensive food menu. According to the listing by Punch Taverns it underwent a "transformational investment" just 18 months ago.
The Montgomery, Eastham
This striking mock Tudor pub is in Eastham, one of Wirral's oldest villages and a conservation area. Stonegate is seeking an "enthusiastic catering minded publican" to take the helm of the venue which "underwent significant investment a few years ago and is in excellent condition throughout". As well as a bar and kitchen, there's also the potential to renovate the upper floors into private accommodation or a function area.
Thatch & Thistle, Southport
This quaint establishment on Norwood Road has a huge 155 cover and is subject to "exciting" refurbishment plans. The project not only includes a facelift on the interior, but will also breathe new life into the huge outdoor space which sits alongside the A570. While the estimated ingoing costs are more than £57,000, the potential estimated turnover for the Thatch & Thistle is almost £850,000.
