The appearance of the Royal Family standing proudly on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the newly crowned King Charles and Queen Camilla was the moment royal fans had been waiting for.
Charles and Camilla in lavish robes and crowns returned to the Palace from Westminster Abbey, waving as the crowds cheered. The well-wishers filled The Mall after braving downpours to see a colourful ceremonial military procession not seen for 70 years.
The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis joined the monarch, as did the pages of honour and other royals – and then well-wishers were treated to an encore with just the King and Queen.
And according to body language expert Judi James, there were several key moments from the balcony appearance that were very telling.
Camilla taking charge
In one telling moment, Judi noted that newly crowned Queen Camilla appeared to take charge of the proceedings.
She explained to the Mirror: "Seeing Camilla begin to take charge now she is Queen, organizing the balcony choreography by flicking her hands in much the same impatient gesture that Charles used when his pens were leaking might show a new era of a much more confident Queen Camilla who might match her husband’s desire for perfection.
"She also seemed to be gently urging Charles to go inside after the first appearance."
Charles' anxiety lifts
Meanwhile, when it came to King Charles, Judi added: "This balcony appearance showed Charles genuinely look surprised and humbled by the roar of affection from the crowds.
"It was the moment the anxiety lifted from his features and a more relaxed smile take its place.
"His eyes crinkled in a Duchenne smile, which would be prompted by genuine pleasure and which would normally be a connecting smile to create emotional empathy with the audience. His mouth smile was asymmetric though, showing his emotions were still complex and varied.
"His encore showed he had possibly experienced his personal 'sweet spot' of the day, lingering again to stand alone to communicate directly with his public."
Louis' sweet gesture
One of the stars of the Coronation balcony was Prince Louis, who adorably stole the scene by banging his fists as he impatiently waited for the RAF flypast.
Judi explained to the Mirror again: "Louis and Charlotte are formidable scene-stealers, Charlotte with her new poise and royal elegance and Louis with his ongoing enthusiasm.
"He stared up at the helicopters in rapt silence, hinting he might be wanting to follow his father’s career, but when he saw the red arrows he sweetly called across to George to share the excitement."
