There are few things finer than Britain's national dish fish and chips. There is little wonder that it is the most popular takeaway among Brits.
For millions across the country Friday, has always and will always mean fish and chips for dinner. It is thought to be a tradition that began with Catholics eating fish on Fridays because they could not eat meat (Good Friday was the day Jesus sacrificed his flesh for humanity).
Nottinghamshire chippy The Cod's Scallops in West Bridgford was one of five across the UK in the running for Restaurant of the Year. But the restaurant and takeaway, which have been open for less than a year at Wilford Lane Retail Park, was pipped to the post by Fish City in Belfast.
