Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were both given fines by Met Police for lockdown parties they attended.
It was announced on Tuesday, April 12, Mr Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak received fixed penalty notices from police over a lockdown party they attended. Both politicians went to a spontaneous birthday gathering for the Prime Minister at the Cabinet Office in June 2020.
In a video broadcasted on the BBC, Boris Johnson said he has paid his fine relating to a gathering in the Cabinet Room on his birthday on June 19, 2020, and offered a "full apology". Mr Sunak has also issued an apology and said he "deeply regret the frustration and anger caused and I am sorry".

Mr Johnson said it "did not occur" to him that the gathering in the Cabinet Room on June 19 2020 to mark his 56th birthday was a violation of coronavirus rules, but that he "now humbly accepts" he did breach Covid-19 laws.
Merseyside MPs reacted furiously to the fines and have called for Mr Johnson's and Sunak's resignations. MP Dame Angela Eagle, who served under Gordon Brown’s Labour government, said: “The Chancellor’s PM has lied to the House of Commons - he must now resign”.
Maria Eagle, sister of Angela and MP for Garston and Halewood, also called for the PM to resign. In a statement on Twitter she said: “[The] PM has clearly lied to [the] House of Commons & the country repeatedly. He has broken the laws he himself made & must now resign”.
Dan Carden, Labour MP for Liverpool Walton, was blistering in his remarks. On Twitter he posted: “The Prime Minister and Chancellor broke the laws they set for the rest of us, then repeatedly lied to cover it up. There is no question: they must resign. The British public deserve so much better than this rotten Conservative government”.
