Hyderabad: Telangana police in coordination with Uber authorities on Monday announced integration of a new security feature to the Uber App, which can be used by passengers or drivers to directly alert the police in case of any emergency.
The new feature, an SOS icon, is now available on the Uber App under the option Tool Kit. Once clicked, the distress alert is received by Dial 100 who will then inform the nearest local patrol to reach out.
The SOS feature provides Dial 100 the location, name and phone number of the person. The Dial 100 staff will later also follow up with the police and person who used the SOS facility.
“As part of this tech-enabled collaboration, in the face of an emergency, passengers or drivers, will be able to share their live location which is updated every 4 seconds along with their details. This will help in saving critical time by providing potentially life-saving assistance by police,” said additional director general of police (Women Safety) Swati Lakra. Police said that for this technology integration they did not incur any expense.
