Children with a thickened, blocked heart muscle now have their first FDA-approved treatment to improve their ability to be active and reduce their symptoms. The Food and Drug Administration on Sept. 30 approved Camzyos (mavacamten) for pediatric patients weighing at least 30 kilograms, about 66 pounds, with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The FDA described the decision as the first treatment for children with the condition to improve functional capacity and symptoms. Camzyos, made by Bristol Myers Squibb, was first approved for adults in 2022.
