Teenager wanted by cops after horror hit and run that killed local 'running man'

A teen is wanted in connection with a fatal crash that killed a man known locally as the 'running man.' David Francis was struck by a black Audi S8 on Morgan Mews, Netherton, Bootle, at 9pm on Thursday, April 13.

The motor smashed into a nearby property before the driver fled the scene on foot, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Emergency crews raced to incident but David was pronounced dead at the scene. The 63-year-old is well-known in the Litherland area and has been dubbed the 'running man' by locals.

Cops launched a probe into the incident and now detectives want to speak to 17-year-old Lewis Wright, who officers claim has information that they believe could be vital to the investigation.

The teen is described as a white male, 5ft 6in tall, with brown hair and brown eyes and is known to frequent the Netherton and Litherland areas.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew McCourt said: “I am appealing to anyone who has information regarding this investigation to come forward, particularly anyone who has not yet spoken to police and knows this boy or saw the incident take place on Morgan Mews.

“Furthermore we believe Wright could hold vital information to our continuing enquiries and are appealing to the public to assist us in locating him. This was a horrific and reckless incident that has left a family with a devastating loss.

“We are determined to find the person responsible and bring them to justice. Please contact police as a matter of urgency with any information that may assist our investigations and help bring justice for David and his family and friends.

"If you see Wright or hold any information, contact police via @MerPolCC on Twitter, ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, with reference 23000314332.

"You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or contact them via their online form at: crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress."
