Teenager stabbed to death in daylight attack in Jubilee Country Park in Petts Wood, south east London

A teenager has been stabbed to death in a park in south-east London in the middle of the afternoon.

The 19-year-old was injured in Jubilee Country Park, close to Tent Peg Lane in Petts Wood, at about 2.30pm on Wednesday.

An air ambulance was called but he died at the scene. His family has been informed.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Webb, from the Metropolitan Police, said: “I am urging anyone who witnessed this attack, or who saw someone running away from the park, to please come forward and contact my team.

“Although the stabbing took place away from local roads, I’m certain that there are people who would have noticed something that seemed out of place or unusual, or someone behaving in a suspicious way.

“Please call us no matter how insignificant you may think your information is. Anything could help us to identify the person responsible.”

A crime scene is in place and no arrests have been made.

Jubilee Country Park is a 62-acre public park and nature reserve within the London borough of Bromley.

Superintendent Lewis Collins, from the Met’s South Area Command Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with this young man’s family and friends.

“This is a tragic incident, which occurred in a quiet area, and I know it will also impact the local community.

“There will be a visible policing presence in the coming days, and I would encourage anyone with information or concerns to please speak with an officer.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting reference CAD 3972/20Sep, or to remain anonymous they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
