A teenage woman has been flown to hospital with multiple injuries after a car and a semi-trailer crashed on the Pacific Highway.
NSW Ambulance crews and the Westpac rescue helicopter were deployed to the scene, near Tarean Road at Karuah, about 12.30am on Sunday, August 23.
Paramedics and the chopper's critical care team treated the woman, believed to be aged in her late teens, for multiple injuries. It reportedly took almost an hour to free her from where she was trapped in the wreck.
The woman was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment, including for injuries to her face and abdomen.
Emergency services reported the crash involved a B-double fuel tanker truck and a car. The fuel tanker was reportedly empty at the time, according to the Medowie Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigade.
Paramedics assessed the man who was driving the truck for minor injuries. He did not need to be taken to hospital.
The Pacific Highway was closed southbound at Tarean Road, at Karuah, while the emergency operation was under way and the crash site was cleared.
Light vehicles were diverted while heavy vehicles were parked. The highway reopened and there were no further delays by 4am, according to Live Traffic NSW.
