Teenager fighting for his life after being hit by car

A TEENAGER is in a “critical” condition after he was struck by a car in Glasgow on Saturday evening.

The 18-year-old was walking alone along the footpath on the A81 Maryhill Road, near to Dalsholm Road, at about 7.35pm when he was struck by a black Mercedes E220 car travelling westbound along Maryhill Road.

Emergency services attended and the teenager was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as “critical”.

The 41-year-old male driver of the car and his three passengers were not injured.

Constable Scott MacKenzie of the Road Policing Unit, Greater Glasgow Division, said: “This can be quite a busy junction and so we would ask anyone who was in the area, who has not yet spoken to officers but believes they may have information that could help our inquiry, to contact us.

“We would also be interested in any dashcam footage from the road at the time.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 3162 of Saturday October 12 2024 when calling.”

The road was closed northbound for about seven and a half hours, and reopened at 3.35am on Sunday.
