A teenager has been charged after allegedly committing the "brutal" robbery and sexual assault of a Kalgoorlie woman.
The 16-year-old was arrested on three charges, including aggravated sexual penetration without consent, strangling, and robbery.
Police say, the teenager, who cannot be named, was apprehended at about 9:30 on Saturday night and appeared before the Perth Children's Court on Sunday.
Goldfields-Esperance Superintendent Stephen Thompson said local officers were assisted by specialist detectives flown in from Perth on Friday to assist with the investigation.
"As soon as a serious incident like this occurs, we deploy every resource that's needed to resolve the matter," he said.
"On this occasion, that's included bringing specialist investigators in from Perth from the Sexual Assault Squad, using our forensic expertise and our intelligence capabilities."
The alleged incident occurred between 10:30 pm and 11:30 pm on Thursday night, while the woman was walking near Kingsmill Street in Victory Heights.
'Incredible fortitude'
Superintendent Thompson said the alleged victim had shown incredible fortitude following what he described as a "horrible" and "traumatic" attack.
"This was a brutal attack which occurred in a secluded area in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder area of Victoria Heights," he said.
"The survivor of this incident has shown incredible fortitude, she's stayed strong and she's been able to assist the investigators.
"We'll make sure she continues to get the care and support she needs."
Superintendent Thompson said a police plea for information was instrumental in officers identifying the alleged assailant.
"We asked people to review their CCTV and footage and they did that and they came to the investigators' assistance," he said.
Superintendent Thompson said with matter was now before the court he could not provide further details, but thanked the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community for their assistance.
"The community and the hard work of the police team brought this all together, and we've got an offender in custody within 48 hours, which is fantastic," he said.
The alleged offender did not apply for bail and is due to face Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on April 11.
