
A teenage girl has been hospitalised following a “serious sexual assault” in an East London park on Sunday night.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police were called to Cottons Park in Romford at around 7.30pm on Sunday following reports of a sexual assault.
The victim, in her late teens, was attended to by police and the London Ambulance Service before being transported to hospital.
The man was arrested on Monday morning and remains in police custody.
The Met Police said it is believed that the suspect and victim were known to each other.
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
A cordon remains in place in Cottons Park as police carry out further enquiries.
A statement from the Met Police added: “We appreciate the concern that this will cause, but we want to reassure people that we have a person in custody and have increased patrols in the local area.”
A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7:49pm on Sunday 15 February to reports of an incident on Recreation Avenue, Romford.
“We sent an ambulance crew and a paramedic in a fast response car to the scene
“We treated a woman at the scene and took her to hospital as a priority.”
