A teenager is "lucky to be alive" after a nasty bike accident.
Back in April 2021, Connor McManus, Harley Molyneux, Bradley Poyser and Cori-Lee McCarthy, all aged between 12 and 14 and from Newton-le-Willows, were riding their bikes, when Cori-Lee came off his bike on Mucky Mountains. The teenager suffered a serious injury and was bleeding heavily after the handlebars of the bike went into his body.
The rest of the group made a 999 call after realising the severity of the injury, and were advised by the call handler to download the What3Words app to help emergency services locate them.

Cori-Lee was then airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where he was kept for three days while he recovered. Doctors claimed that the 13-year-old's injuries could have been life threatening, if not for his friends' quick thinking.
Cori-Lee's mum, Samantha Abrahams explained how lucky her son really was. She told the ECHO: "Cori had surgery and found the handlebars went 10cm deep into his groin just missing vital arteries, but he didn't shed a single tear, and his friends were so brave helping him. He was so lucky.
"It was the school holidays and I was visiting a friend, when Cori-Lee rang me up and casually said 'Mum, I cut my groin it's bleeding and I might need stitches' I asked was it bad, and he said no, he wasn't crying whatsoever.
"He even asked me to get him a drink on the way, so I set off to get him, and when I arrived I felt sick. There was a lot of blood, his mates were amazing, they saved my boy, without their fast thinking it would have been a different story."
After hearing of the boys' bravery, Newton ward councillor, Seve Gomez-Aspron, nominated the group for a North West Ambulance Service "Life Saver" and Mayor of St Helens Borough "Good Citizen" award.
Cllr Gomez-Aspron told the ECHO: "It’s fantastic that such a historic and prestigious society has recognised the bravery and quick thinking of the lads. I felt they needed the recognition they deserved and so it was my honour to apply on their behalf. They’re a credit to the town.
"Young'uns often get stick. They should also be rewarded when they go above and beyond. So congratulations to Brad, Harley and Connor. "
The boys were awarded with their scrolls from the council at a ceremony on March 27.
