Teen girl left injured after being attacked by man while out walking on Scots path

A 17-year-old girl has been left injured after being left assaulted in a Scots town.

The incident occurred in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders at around 8.10pm on Sunday, January 30.

She had been walking along an area known locally as the 'The Black Path' near Currie Road when a man attacked her.

The teenager was left with an injury to her back and was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

The suspect, described as 5ft 7ins in height and of a slim build, ran off in an unknown direction following the assault.

He had been wearing a dark top with the hood up, a dark snood and dark jogging bottoms at the time.

Police Scotland officers are now appealing for further information.

Detective Constable Bruce Dodds, Galashiels CID, said: "This was very frightening for the girl.

"Thankfully she managed to get in touch with her family who took her to hospital where she was treated and has now been discharged.

"Officers are making local enquiries and checking CCTV from the area but are appealing to anyone who may have been walking or driving in the area and has dash cam footage or any information about this incident to contact them.

"If you were in the area between 7.45pm and 8.30pm and maybe saw a man fitting the description hanging about the area, or have any details that may help police with their enquiries, then please get in touch.

"Officers will be patrolling the area today so please approach them if you can help."

Anyone with information can contact Galashiels CID via 101, quoting reference number 3494 of Sunday 30 January, 2022

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
