Teen driver kills three pedestrians in deadly Oakland street crash, police say

Three people were dead and multiple were injured after a teenage driver allegedly tore through an Oakland street in a horror late-night crash.

Cops say the chaos erupted just after 11 p.m. Saturday when the underage driver — believed to be speeding — slammed into a parked car before plowing into pedestrians while turning onto International Boulevard.

Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene as stunned witnesses watched the carnage unfold. Three more pedestrians were rushed to the hospital with injuries ranging from critical to stable.

The teen driver, whose identity has not been released, was arrested and also taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to audio obtained by ABC San Francisco, a first responder to the scene said, “Right now, we're looking at four DOAs, two critical, waiting on 26... 26 is getting on scene... and waiting on... we got two ambulances coming.”

“He hit this blue car right here, and I guess he hit the gas and went even faster and went down the whole sidewalk and just sideswiped all those people. And he took off running...I saw him hit this car. I seen him coming, but there was nothing I could do. He was going too fast,” a witness told the station.

Another witness, Michael Turner, also described the scene, saying, “You heard tires screeching, then all of a sudden you heard a loud bang. You heard tires screeching, then all of a sudden you heard a loud bang.”

During an interview with KTVU, another witness, Cornelius Reed, described the horror at the scene.

“I ran over there, but I couldn't do nothing for nobody. I mean legs, legs bent opposite directions, arms going every which way. It was ugly. It was an ugly scene.”

Police are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the deadly smash-up.
