A 19-year-old woman who was burnt on Valentine’s day when molten plastic was accidentally sprayed over her body finally feels confident showing off her scars. Hannah Armstrong’s clothes were set alight when she was unintentionally splashed with melted plastic from an arson fire on Valentine’s day evening 2020.
Plastic was believed to have been set alight to keep a group of teenagers warm. Hannah didn’t realise she was on fire until she saw the flames and immediately stopped, dropped and rolled and screamed at her friends to call for help.
Hannah was taken to hospital where she had the melted plastic, clothes, dead tissue and skin scrapped off her. She was sent home after three days in intensive care but had a skin graft surgery at the end of February 2020 – involving taking skin from her upper thigh to put over the deep burn on her left leg.
