Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins was one of the first players asked about Joe Burrow’s massive contract extension.
The day after Burrow’s five-year extension worth $275 million, Higgins was upbeat, joked about his quarterback being able to buy an island and stressed he was proud of him, as seen in video footage from Pro Football Network’s Jay Morrison.
Buy Bengals TicketsAccording to Fox 19’s Jeremy Rauch, Higgins also hinted he would like his agent to keep working on his own possible contract extension before the season opener.
But a report before Burrow’s extension went public said the Bengals and Higgins aren’t close and won’t be for a while, especially with big names like Justin Jefferson still likely resetting the wide receiver market with deals of their own.
Still, Adam Schefter made it clear while reporting on Burrow’s extension that Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase are a big part of the Bengals’ current contract planning.
So while a deal might not get done for Higgins before the season opener, he’s still upbeat (as expected) and Burrow’s extension doesn’t mean his won’t happen sooner or later, too.
