Teddy Sheringham has told Jesse Lingard he should sign for West Ham despite interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies made a January approach to bring the Manchester United playmaker to St. James' Park, but negotiations broke down after the Red Devils asked for a large loan fee.
Lingard was said to be disappointed that the move broke down after struggling for game time at Old Trafford. The 29-year-old looks set to leave the Red Devils this summer with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The England international is believed to be on a number of clubs' radar, including PSG, Juventus, Newcastle and West Ham United. However, it was at the Hammers that he showed his true pedigree.

David Moyes took Lingard on loan to the London Stadium in January 2021, whereby he excelled. The midfielder scored nine times in 16 appearances and was unfortunate to miss out on Gareth Southgate's squad for EURO2020.
Sheringham told Genting Casino : "I think he’s a good fit for West Ham and he’s done well for them before when he played on loan. He’s missed a lot of football this season, but he was fantastic during his loan period."
