Ted Lasso actor Brendan Hunt reveals two players behind his love for Arsenal

Ted Lasso star Brendan Hunt has revealed the one game that made him an Arsenal supporter over twenty years ago.

The American actor is well-known for his role as Coach Beard in Apple TV's sports comedy-drama television series. Hunt co-created the series with Jason Sudeikis in 2020, spanning over 30 episodes.

Following the release of season three, Hunt and Sudeikis have both appeared in countless television interviews and attended a number of Premier League games across the country.

In September last year, the co-creators Hunt and Sudeikis watched Arsenal beat Brentford 3-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium. After watching Mikel Arteta's side add another three points to their impressive early season tally, the pair ran into Mikel Arteta.

In an interview with The Athletic, Hunt revealed he didn't begin to learn about football until he moved to Europe in 1999. His move to Amsterdam, partnered with Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars' influence in the Premier League, resulted in only one outcome.

"It was a life-changing experience long before Ted Lasso ever happened," he explained to Bleacher Report. "I lived with these nine Dutch guys, who had all been in frat together in Groningen. Their frat was called the Cartel, which is why the jazz band in the show is called The Cartel.

"Euro 2000 was that summer and Holland was a co-host, they had a great team back then. Edgar Davids, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Kluivert. They built bleachers in our living room.

"That kind of enthusiasm is very, very infectious. Then Dennis Bergkamp was at Arsenal at the time, so Dutch people were like, 'Hey, you should watch Arsenal.'

"I was just passing a bar where Arsenal was playing Chelsea and they were down 2-0 with 20 minutes left. Nwankwo Kanu scores a hat-trick in the last 15 minutes of the game at Chelsea. That was the final piece of the puzzle and there was no turning back. I'm stuck with them now."
