Techie duped in credit card fraud in Pune

PUNE: The Kondhwa police in Pune is investigating a software engineer’s complaint that cyber crooks made four transactions totally worth Rs 2.74 lakh on July 27 last year by using his credit card details despite him not sharing his details or OTPs with anybody.

The police suspect it to be a case of hacking. The techie, who stays on the NIBM road, had reported the matter to the Pune cyber police soon after the fraud and after a verification of his complaint application, the matter was referred to Kondhwa police for formal registration of a case.

The techie told TOI on Monday, “I contacted the bank and blocked the credit card after receiving four text messages and emails of the transactions done by the cyber crooks. As per the procedure, the bank calls the customer and seeks authorization before transferring the money. But in my case, the bank did not seek my consent before transferring money in the crooks account.”

A complaint relating to cheating was lodged.
