ByteDance’s AI assistant Doubao launches paid version

ByteDance Ltd.’s artificial intelligence assistant Doubao has begun monetizing its features with the rollout of a professional version on Wednesday. Powered by the recently released Doubao 2.1 series of large language models, the paid version targets complex office and productivity tasks. The standard monthly subscription starts at 68 yuan ($10).

Galbot humanoid robot completes trial at CATL production line

Galbot announced on Wednesday that its S1 humanoid robot has been operating continuously for more than three months on a mass-production line at a Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) facility. The startup claims this marks the world’s first routine autonomous deployment of humanoid robots in new-energy smart manufacturing. The S1 handles long-distance material transport in module and battery-pack production. Galbot also signed a strategic partnership with CATL subsidiary NING Service to collaborate on brand promotion, service support and the aftermarket for embodied intelligence applications.

Dreame shifts automotive and chip units to foundational research

Smart home appliance maker Dreame Technology has consolidated its operations into four main segments, shifting its automotive and chip businesses into its research institute to focus on foundational technology. Founder Yu Hao disclosed the strategic contraction to Caixin on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Summer Davos forum in Dalian. Yu, whose personal social media account was suspended over a month ago, added that the company has now taken over his account and manages all his public communications.

JD.com works with embodied AI firm MagicLab on product development

Embodied AI company MagicLab announced on Wednesday that it had signed a strategic cooperation agreement with JD.com. The two companies will collaborate on consumer-facing embodied AI, as well as key application scenarios for education, inspection and tour-guide products. During the cooperation period, they will exchange supply chain resources, with the goal of helping MagicLab achieve sales of 1 billion yuan on JD.com.
